Film Review: Le Donk & Scor-Zay-Zee

Le Donk & Scor-Zay-Zee is the latest film from Shane Meadows (Dead Man's Shoes, This Is England, and Somer's Town). This film is like This Is Spinal Tap, but it's involves hip hop instead of metal, I must say, this movie is pretty damn funny.
The film stars one of my favorite current British actor Paddy Considine (who improvised and came up with the idea along with Shane Meadows) as Le Donk, a man who has been trying to make it big in the music world and is trying to land an opening gig with The Arctic Monkeys. He also gets the director Shane Meadows to follow him around while trying to land the gig. Le Donk decides to be the manager and the beat-maker for Scor-Zay-Zee, who is actually a pretty good comedy rapper.
I was pretty much laughing throughout the whole film, except for the first 10 minutes where the laughs were a few and far between. The rest of the film had me chuckling or laughing throughout the film's short running time (71 minutes).
The only problem is trying to understand what they are saying at first, but overtime you'll get the hang of it and it becomes easier to understand as film plays. If you like British humor, you'll enjoy this.

Film Review: Looking For Eric

Looking For Eric did for Ken Roach's film career like what Happy Go Lucky did for Mike Leigh. Both directors made a movie with a touching light hearted tone with a negative situations going on with some comedy thrown in. Like both films, they contain an award worthy performance from the lead performer.
Looking For Eric is about a man Eric who lives a pretty shit life, he has been through multiple divorces, and the kids he lives with don't treat him like a dad. Eric idolizes Eric Cantona, a famous soccer player who plays for the Manchester United. Suddenly, he starts talking to the actual Eric Cantona philisophically and Cantona gives him advice throughout the movie. With this advice, Eric's life starts going in the right direction, but there are some stalls due to his son's connection with a local ganster. Eric decides to do something about it.
Looking for Eric one of Ken Roach's most light-hearted film, and also one of his better one's. I suggest you going to see once once the film is released in theaters in America. All I can say is that there are no flaws and the story, direction, and acting is fantastic. Go see it.

Film Review: Giallo

Giallo (translated to "yellow" in Italian) is the latest thriller from Dario Argento (Suspiria, Tenebre, and many other gems). The way I looked at Giallo, I looked at it as a parody of other giallo films (many done by Argento). The film is insanely predictable, but I personally thought that was the point. Argento hasn't really been on a streak lately (his last film "Mother Of Tears" was his only pretty good movie in the last several years).
Giallo is about Linda (Emmanuelle Seigner) who was out in Italy to see her sister who is modeling internationally, as Linda was going to have dinner with her, she never showed up and is now missing. We see her sister getting kidnapped by a yellow skinned killer (noticed why it's called Giallo). This killer basically kidnaps beautiful women and tortures, take pictures of them tortured and eventually kills them. Linda goes out to hire a dectective Enzo (Adrien Brody) to race and find her before she gets killed.
As mentioned earlier, this movie is predictable, it's also badly acted on many occasions. All the stuff with Seigner and Brody were bland and flat, the only amusing part was the killer himself. Anytime he was on the screen, I was laughing hysterically at his antics (for example: he goes on his laptop and looks at the pictures of his victim and starts whacking off), just the way he talks is pretty damn hystertical.
I'm not gonna go further in this review since I'm sure many people can already tell where this is going. So I'm gonna sum up this review to tell people to watch this if they want to watch a predictable, badly acted thriller with occasional scenes where you'll laugh hysterically and witness some pretty graphic violence. If you don't want to see that, then I don't suggest seeing it.
